The intent of this presentation is to show why every K-12 school serious about integrating STEAM into their curriculum must incorporate or engage in architectural design with its students; architecture isn't just the 'Arts' portion of the STEAM acronym. This presentation will illustrate a case study in a middle school as well as various other applications in the classroom. Attendees will be able to identify entry points into their curriculum even if they do not have a design/architecture background. From hands-on building to virtual reality; students are are capable of using the latest software that is actually used in the workforce today! When done correctly, students do so much more than satisfy all the letters of the STEAM acronym; they practice design-thinking, they collaborate, they innovate, and critically think in ways that will enhance their learning and unleash their fullest potential.
